Biography for Colston Chandler

I went to Coggin elementary school from the third grade and then Brownwood Junior High. I then moved to Corpus Christi, where I went to high school (WB Ray, if I recall accurately).  (My mother, now dead, was a social worker for the state and was transferred.) I graduated valedictorian and headed on to Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) with a National Merit Scholarship.  I graduated in 1961 summa cum laude with a degree in applied mathematics.  From there I headed to the University of California in Berkeley for a Ph. D. in theoretical physics (in 1967), also on scholarship (which were plentiful in those Sputnik days).  From there I
went to join the faculty at the University of New Mexico, where I have stayed with the exception of leaves in various places.  I "retired" in May 2004, though I still teach courses in physics for liberal arts students.

I married in 1965, had three sons, and divorced in 1987.  I married again in 1994, and the two of us have together six lovely children and seven grandchildren.  Our children are spread from Tokyo to Berkeley to
Albuquerque to New York City, so it is a challenge to keep up with them.

I have good memories of growing up in Brownwood, but in the absence of reinforcement the memories of names and particular faces has vanished. I'm not sure I even have a junior high annual to look at anymore to
refresh my memory.
